Bio

Golf and soccer consumed my being since I was 4. Traveling to Mexico to play international amateur matches representing youth leagues and schools from my fair city of La Mirada, California. In 1975, during my junior year of high school, my whole existence changed when my best friend introduced me to surfing for the first time. Little did I know, this inland boy would soon be searching for that nameless island with the perfect left, in the uninhabited islands of Fiji and the So. Pacific. Traveling abroad with my surfboard, my eyes opened through the lens of my 8mm movie camera, and my soul to a new perspective on the life, which I never dreamed. Somehow surfing and photography had transformed my life.

When I returned to the states from a year and half on the road, traveling to New Zealand and other South Pacific islands, I saved my money and spent the next year traveling through Mainland Mexico and Baja. One Halloween day, late in the 70's, a friend of mine invited me to Todos Santos Island, Baja, Calif. The film I shot that day and the timeless pictures captured, lead me to meet Flame (Larry Moore of Surfing Magazine). Under Larry's tutelage, my first shot was printed in Surfing Magazine. Since then I have enjoyed travels, solo and with groups of young groms, adding stamps to my passport of Tahiti, Hawaii (each winter), Panama, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and most of Central America. Here at home those beautiful ‘Ranch’ boating sessions remain at the top of places I enjoy the most. Central and Northern California, along with the East coast of the United States and New England, have such unadulterated scenes, in comparison to the urban metropolis of my home here in Huntington Beach, California. I have been fortunate enough to have my work published domestically and internationally, in such periodicals as Surfer, Surfing, Surfers Journal, Surfing Life, Tracks, Kiwi Surf, Wave Action, Deporte Illustrada et al.

Currently, my photography has nurtured its way toward the digital medium. Shooting sporting events of all types from surfing, soccer and golf to hockey, football, boxing, and baseball has enabled me to develop an eye for action. Stay tuned to JanoszPhotos.com as my web site will include ‘fresh’ digital images uploaded after each event.
